GRRR....

I am flustered! Timmy has been sick for like a month now! He went in at the first of the month with a fever and overall moodiness. Turns out he had a double ear infection. He was started on his 10 day antibiotic, and a decongestion medicine. That afternoon one of his ear infections ruptured and then he had to have ear drop too. In addition to all of that he had severe diarrhea from the medicine with a very sore bum. So I had to buy him an additional OTC to combat that.So he finished up that medicine and was doing okay, for a day. Then he started having a fever and tugging at his ear again. So I took him back, he still had an infection in one ear, so they gave him a stronger antibiotic for another 10 days. So he finished that on Monday, and has been tugging at his ear still. So today, we went in for his 1 year well check, which already meant 3 vaccines to ruin his day. But they checked his ears again since I told them he kept tugging at them. At first glance, the Doctor said that one looked slightly irritated but not bad. But she decided to do a test, don't remember the name of it, they stuck this machine in his ear that did a puff of air. The test results said he had fluid in both ears. Oh and while checking everything else he has a yeast infection in the diaper area as a side effect from all the antibiotic he has had in the past little while. GRRR... So here we are having just returned from the pharmacy with a third, yet stronger antibiotic to try for 10 MORE days. And a new decongestant to use for a MONTH to dry everything up! Besides feeling totally bad for my baby, I'm getting bummed out by the cost of all this! 3 Doctor visits with a copay of $30, 5 RXs at $15, 1 RX at $30, 1 OTC at $20, and I still have to go by the OTC for the yeast infection. And he has a follow up again on the 4th, so that will be another $30. My only saving grace in all of those costs has been CVS. They have been running coupons in their ads for $30 Gift Cards with a new RX. So I have been filling the RXs one at a time, and using the Gift Cards to pay for the next RX and the OTC. But man that's a lot and all over the period of one month. It's making me miss the poor student days of qualifying for medicaid. So that is my vent, thanks for listening! And here is wishing you all HEALTH and no doctor visits!

I hope this round of meds makes little Timmy all better. That really stinks having it all hit in 1 month. Hope your day is better tomorrow.

Love ya,
Heather ;)

Hey Liz, I need to get dressed and ready for the day, but this happened with William last Spring in Texas too and I went through ALL of what you're talking about. Sis Anne Kolle told me to put Swim-Ear Ear drying aid (make sure what you get is 95% isopropyl alcohol) drops in his ears and it worked (I bought them at your HEB Plus). They're awesome! He hasn't had once since and he was pegged to have them all of the time, so the Dr said. My sister uses ________ (and this saved her son from having surgery on his ears). I forgot what it's called but when she's home, I'll have her comment to you or I'll be back.

Sorry, this sounds really gross, but it also works. Rub yogurt on his bum; that red rash will disappear in NO time or if you can't do that, at least have him eat yogurt.

My tips are actually things I've done with my son, who was 1-year old like your Timmy. Yes, I DID put yogurt on his bum! :) Anyhow, my sister Krista's son has had major ear problems and she used MURINE (she found it at Rite-Aid, it's marked as homeopathic). She says put three drops in each infected ear and give him a normal dose of Tylenol, too, if the ear is hurting him. She said this worked PERFECTLY, too. So, now you have two options that are OTC! Good luck. Krista and I DO know how hard it is. You're not alone!
