Fresh Berries

Do you see that berry turning black??? YUMMY! Our blackberry bush has been doing really well. We've been getting a handful of fresh ripe blackberries each day. I love blackberries. As a kid I had an Aunt that made homemade blackberry jelly from fresh berries that was so good! I lovingly nicknamed it messy jelly at a very young age. I am so excited now to be able to go right out back and pick my own fresh blackberries.

Memorial Day Weekend

Look what we did over Memorial Day weekend:

Mustang Island

Last week on the 14th we were spontaneous for the first time in forever! We went to Corpus Christi and Mustang Island for a few days. A good friend offered us her hotel room that she couldn't use on a Thursday night, so we quickly packed, Dave took Friday off, and we start driving. We got there checked in and went for a swim in at the hotel. The next morning we slept in, enjoyed the free breakfast and played around. Then we went to lunch at one of my favorite places that I hadn't been in years. Then we went out to Mustang Island state park for the day. After having so much we decided to extend our stay, and reserved a campsite. We made a quick trip into town to HEB for some food, and we were back on the beach setting up a tent. Funny thing too, we got the van stuck in the sand didn't take any pictures, which I'm regretting. But we got it out so all was good! It was way cool to camp on the beach, a first for us, I think we'll do it again.

Back Tracking...Soccer

On May 2nd we had our last soccer game for the spring. We played, then presented the kids and assistant coach with awards, then had refreshments and played at the park. It was lots of fun. Unfortunately I (Liz) was the only one from my fam there. So Coach Dave wasn't there for the last game, and my kids weren't there to recieve their awards. Long story made short, Timmy was sick earlier in the week and with the "Local Scare" was tested for swine flu. It was negative, thankfully, but as a precaution the whole family was treated and golly that's pricey medicine! Anyways, everyone was doing well Friday and we were set for Saturday. I did a quick overnight trip to my sisters to come back to Jimmy & Addy now sick. So since I'd been away, and Dave had been with all the kids and the germs. I was sent to run the show. All went well, but I missed having them there. Here's a slideshow of the last game:

Back Tracking...The Zoo with Friends

We spent a full day at the zoo with our friends Aedan, Caleb, their Dad, and their Grammy. Thanks for coming with us!!!I think everyone had a blast! With the zoo pass, we've been there many times this past year, but it seems each visit is still a new experience to the kids. They LOVE it! We lucked out too, it was a nice overcast day. So it wasn't too hot, and they beach area was open too!

Back Tracking...Witte Museum

The Witte Museum is one that I'd heard about, but never made it to, until a few weeks ago. The great thing is on Tuesdays from 3-close it's FREE! But I haven't been brave enough to take all the kids by myself. So it was a last minute activity when Dave got out of training early one Tuesday in April. The main part was "museumy" for lack of a real term. Not totally exciting to the kids, but it was kid friendly, and they were allowed to touch things. But I think I speak for all of them when I say the best part was the "Tree House" out back. It was a multi-level building with all sorts of FUN hands on kid level stuff.

Addy posing with the Triceratops...side note she has been REALLY into Dino's lately. Her favorite is the triceratops, so she was really excited to see this in the front lobby of the museum!

The boys attempting to build a log cabin.

making noise. The third floor of the tree house was the sound level with all sorts of things for the kids to make "music" on. This was a colored pipe system that they hit with flip flops. Very fun!

Jimmy looking out at the top of the tree house.

Addy playing at the water works.

This was the coolest looking thing. It was called the sky ride. It was a bike on a big cable wire that you rode up in the sky. There was a safety net underneath, and they harnessed you up as an extra safety. Jimmy was the only one tall enough, and he got all harnessed and on the bike...but then he "wigged out" and came back down. So no pictures of the actual ride. Maybe next time. Addy wanted to go so BAD but she wasn't tall enough. She went back like 5 times to see if she had gotten taller.

Playing with pulleys.

All and all a very FUN adventure. One I would recommend to all! Especially on Tuesday's when it's free!!!

Back Tracking... Playful Kids

Kids will be kids...and the great thing about that is that they are (generally speaking) fun, light hearted, and very playful. It can be quite refreshing to actually to sit back and just play with them. In this picture Addy had found an old Halloween costume in her dress up clothes, it was a bit too small for her...but that didn't stop her. She was bound and determined to be a flower for the day. While in this costume she came up with all sorts of silly games. My favorite was she wrapped up in a blanket, that was the "dirt" and she curled up face down and said I needed to water her. As I "watered" her she grew taller and taller until she was a beautiful flower.

Next it was my turn to be the flower. How do I look? HAHA.

Timmy was particularly playful this day too. He kept climbing up his car toy and using it as a slide. Very silly sight. Each time he went down he laughed so hard.

Back Tracking...Fiesta Parade

So I've lived in this town nearly 3 years, and guite honestly been oblivious to "FIESTA" but with Jimmy being in school this year we were introduced. All week long at school they had different activities with the kids that were Fiesta related. One day they even had a parade. They called it a shoe box parade. The kids were to make shoe box floats and carry them or drag them in the parade. So Jimmy was of course excited. After much thought he decided on a Batman theme float, so we gathered up some Batman toys, a shoe box, the hot glue gun, and box of art supplies. He wanted the float on wheels so he could drag it, I suggested attaching his shoe box to the top of the barbie car, but that wouldn't do. He was afraid someone might see it, and laugh at him for using a pink car. So we made wheels with his Knex set and put them through the float. Here was the end result. Batman swinging across the sky to the building, bat signal in the sky, and bat mobile drivng along. I did the hot glue and few other parts but mostly Jimmy did this. I was proud of him.
I was shocked though to see at the actual parade how many of the floats looked 100% parent done, like crazy professional things. I thought that was kind of sad cause at least for Jimmy making it was 1/2 the fun.
Addy and Timmy got a kick out of watching the parade, and seeing their BIG brother. Addy thought it was the coolest and wanted to have a parade at home. So I gave her a shoe box and some paper and things, but it never reached completion.

Back Tracking ... Cookies

One fun day in April a friend invited us over to decorate sugar cookies. The kids LOVED it!!! Thanks Jerusha!

Back Tracking...Bandera Park

Okay like I mentioned in the previous post, I'm way behind. So I'm going to try and do a quick review of the past few weeks that I missed...

In April some time Dave got out of work early, so we headed out to Bandera to check out a park we had heard about. It was the Bandera city park, located on the Medina River. We had a lot of fun! We packed a picnic dinner, went swimming, fishing, played catch, and frisbee. The great thing about this is it was only 1 hour away, and it was such a pretty scenic drive. I think we will definitely go back out here again!

7th Anniversary & Mother's Day

So a WHOLE lot has been going on since my last post, but rather than try to remember it all now, I thought I'd just do a post on this past weekend. Then maybe I'll back track on the past few weeks later.

May 10th was Mother's Day, but it was also our 7th Anniversary! How very exciting!!! Time goes by so fast, it is unbelievable! We celebrated our day on Saturday. Jerusha was so kind to babysit for us to make it all possible. SO THANKS JERUSHA!!!! We started out with a dinner at the Magic Time Machine. Always a fun experience. We had a lively waiting crew, we had Peter Pan, the girl from Duke of Hazards, and some fairy girl. When they first sat us, they asked if we were there for a special occasion. So of course we told them yes, our anniversary. They also asked our names and proceeded to call us the opposite all night, I was Dave and he was Liz. Well when they returned with our drinks they announced that our anniversary was to be celebrated with a theme. They decided our theme for the night would be Hershey kisses...
So here is Peter Pan wrapping Dave up in his Kiss hat. Most of the pics are gonna be of Dave cause I had the camera. But yes, I was wrapped up too. After our meals came out, Peter Pan came and asked Dave if he was ready to dance...confused he said, "OK." So she (yes Peter was a girl) told him to hop up and here is what happened:

At the end of the hula when he was told to sit, he asked, "what about her, doesn't she get to dance." Peter replied, "no, I just saw the pineapple glaze on your food and the hula had to be done." HAHA gave me a great laugh!!!

After we finished our dinner they brought this out:

And they sang very loudly, "Happy Anniversary, Happy Anniversary, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPYYYYY Anniversary!" And had us blow the candles out. Very fun!!!

Here's a pic of our hats and the pic they took:All in all a very fun, memorable dinner experience. We followed that up with some good ol' dancing! So we both pulled the boots out of the closet for this. We went to cowboy dance hall and had a blast. For those of you who don't know, when Dave and I met he was really into dancing, he even taught classes. He was (and still is an amazing dancer). Honestly I'm not because if you know me I can't hear a beat or rhythm to save my life and well that's important in dancing with the counting and all. But I LOVE to dance! And luckily for me Dave is an excellent leader and so through the years I've learned to follow him pretty well. SO it makes it look like I can dance too. Anyways, we were thinking about it and we hadn't been dancing in 1 and 1/2 years which we decided was way too long! It was so much fun to be spun around the floor! Thanks Dave, I LOVE YOU!!! Yea for a Happy 7 Years!!! We finished the night out with a movie had home after we put the kids down. A very nice night!

Now on to the 2nd half of the post...Mother's Day. It was Happy for me, and hopefully happy for all you other mothers out there! I was allowed to sleep in as long as I wanted while Dave got up with the kids. VERY NICE!!! Then I was brought breakfast in bed, yummy waffles with berries and whip cream! I was given cards, bath salt from Jimmy that he made at school, 2 boxes of chocolate, a new body pillow (that I LOVE), and some beautiful flowers!!! Spoiled all morning long. At church I got a rose, and Dave stayed in nursery with Timmy. In the evening Dave made dinner and set the table all nice with place mats, the real dishes (we usually use plastic), and it all looked so nice. I continued to get spoiled all evening long. Thanks Dave, and kiddos you guys are the best!!! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
